Hello!

You are welcome at the open unofficial Online Touch-Typing Championship.

In order to take part you should pass simple registration, which takes you 2 minutes maximum.

Warning: The script is intended to be used in Internet Explorer 5.5 and higher.

Championship's structure:

From August 2006 the Championship is divided into three parts (in accordance with length of proposed texts): Short, Medium, Long.
Short: 300-700 characters
Medium: 800-1200 characters
Long: 1300-1700 characters

Two championships were launched in the beginning of 2007: Error-Free Typing and Professional Championship.

1 The championship begins on the 1st day of each month and lasts up to the end of it.

2 The championship consists of 6 rounds; each lasts 5 days (except for the last one)
1st round: from the 1st to the 5th day
2nd round: from the 6th to the 10th day
3rd round: from the 11th to the 15th day
4th round: from the 16th to the 20th day
5th round: from the 21st to the 25th day
6th round: from the 26th till the last day of the month

3 A unique text containing from 300 to 1700 characters is to be typed in each round.

4 A participant has an indefinite number of attempts at typing. The best result is entered into the current championship table. There are two possible modes to pass championship: with Backspace enabled and without Backspace.

The score of every participant is calculated as follows:

Score = 100+((Typing speed [characters per minute]+30[Bonus for error-free round passing])*(Number of characters in the round/1000)-Penalty*Number of errors*(sqrt(1000/Text length)),

where Penalty is 5 points in "Backspace enabled" mode and 7 points in "without Backspace" mode.

Example:
A participant has completed a round as follows:
Speed is 150 characters/minute, 4 errors, text length is 500 characters.
Score=100+(150+0)*500/1000-7*4*1,41=136 in "without Backspace" mode;
Score=100+(150+0)*500/1000-5*4*1,41=147 in "Backspace enabled" mode;

5 Error-Free Typing - a participant continues typing until the first error occurs. Scoring formulae: speed + number of characters typed.

6 Professional Championship- typing technique is basically different. A text is typed in a separate window. Errors are no way shown visually. Any error may be corrected by Backspace key. Scoring formulae: SCORE=SPEED+LENGTH-(number of uncorrected errors*3/4)*20. To make records more accurate for errors made but not corrected 3/4 coefficient is used (due to technical difficulties in script realization).

7 If a participant passed a round without any errors, the bonus of 30 points is added to his/her score.

6 The Penalty differs because in "Backspace enabled" mode a participant spends additional time to remove mistyped characters.

8 The best result of every participant is entered into the current championship table.

9 At the end of the month 10 participants with the highest scores are entered into the table "Top 10 of the Month" and their results are stored while the championship is going on.

10 Before the beginning of a new championship (on the first day of a month), a current table of results is cleared up.

11 All the participants have their rating. The rating is calculated as a total sum of the points scored in the last 12 rounds of the championship.

A participant may place on his/her site an informer available to download via the link on the page appearing after participant's enter. The informer shows a participant's rating in the championship and his/her score in the last 12 rounds.

All comments, wishes, proposals etc. one may post in forum at an appropriate topic.

Some notes on round passing:
Press "Start" button and a text for typing appears on the screen. The current statistics on round passing is shown on the right.
The timer switches on when "Start" button is pressed, that is why it is essential to begin typing at once.

Passing a round in "without Backspace" mode: if a wrong character is pressed it will not be typed but treated as an "error" which fact is acknowledged by red colour, and the error counter is increased by one.

Passing a round in "Backspace enabled" mode: if a wrong character is pressed it will be typed and treated as an "error" which fact is acknowledged by red colour, and the error counter is increased by one. After this it is necessary to remove the mistyped characters with the Backspace key and continue typing.

On typing the whole text, the participant's result is entered into a current championship table. If the result has not appeared in the table, try to refresh the page. If this is of no effect, it means there is a server connection error and the attempt is not scored, so the round is to be passed again.
